The government is in talks with India Inc to assess its demand and needs for skilled manpower, Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Anant Kumar Hegde said today.
"The voices being raised here and there asking where is employment creation. In reality we had no data regarding this earlier but now we are capturing the data. Presently, the demand (for skilled persons) is over 20 lakh and in 5-6 months it may reach over a crore in the organised sector," Hegde said on the sidelines of an event here.
"The government is talking to industry on their workforce demand and how we can cater to it. We definitely look forward to positive results," he added.
The minister was present at the launch of SkillConnect, a platform which will connect NSDC certified Training Centres with relevant prospective employers thereby accelerating job creation in the economy.
