Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy today said the territorial government is "keen on promoting the welfare of Ex Servicemen and their dependants" through various progressive schemes.

In his message on the Armed Forces Flag Day, he said the government was now providing a monthly assistance of Rs 6,000 to every Ex-Serviceman and Rs 5,000 to every dependant.

He said Puducherry had been distinguishing itself among all other Union Territories in raising the highest contributions to the Armed Forces Flag Day fund and has been retaining the rolling trophy instituted by Union Defence Ministry consecutively since the last six years.

"This shows that Puducherry is keenly interested in ensuring welfare of the ex servicemen," he added.

Narayanasamy noted that his government had spent Rs 85.74 lakhs during 2016-2017 for welfare schemes benefitting ex servicemen and their dependants.
