A meeting of the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, approved composition of the academic council, consisting of 18 members, and the finance committee, comprising 8 members, sources said.
Scrutinising the Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development Bill, 2011, the Standing Committee on Human Resource Development had recommended the composition of the council and the committee.
The Bill seeks to declare RGNIYD, Kanchipuram, as an institution of national importance.
The existing institute at Sriperumbudur was set up in 1993 with the objective of undertaking advanced study in youth related activities. Various committees recommended giving it the status of institute of national importance.
