Govt not considering nationalisation of rivers: Gangwar

The Government today said it was not considering nationalisation of rivers and Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand governments have proposed construction of dams in the states to resolve the water-shortage problem in Delhi.

In his reply in Lok Sabha on whether the Government is considering nationalisation of rivers, Minister of State for Water Resources Santosh Kumar Gangwar replied in negative.

To another question on whether the Government proposes to construct dams in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand to resolve the problem of water shortage in Delhi, he said, Governments of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have submitted proposals to construct dams at Renuka, Kishau and Lakhwar-Vyasi on the Yamuna, which will help to overcome water-shortage.
 

He also said that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of Vyasi Hydro-Electric Project has been cleared from all angles and the construction of this project in under progress.

The DPRs of Renuka, Kishau and Lakhwar projects are at various stages of mandatory clearances, he said, adding, that the Central Government has included these projects in the list of National Projects.
