Govt officer robbed of her jewellery by conmen

A senior government officer was duped of her jewellery by two conmen, who posed as policemen, while she was on her morning walk today.

The incident took place in Bapa Nagar area where the woman officer on a morning walk when she was approached by the two men in police uniform and advised her to take off her jewellery including bangles and chain in view of an alleged murder in the area, said a senior police officer.

"Two men dressed as policemen stopped her saying that a murder had allegedly taken place and that it was not advisable for women to be walking alone with jewellery," he said.
 

Further, they told the officer to hand over her jewellery to them in view of safety but she denied doing so and kept on walking. But, the two continued pestering her to remove her jewellery.

They even showed her their identity cards to convince her about their identity. She, however, repeatedly refused to follow their advice but finally succumbed to their requests and removed her jewellery and handed over to them, the officer said.

After this, one of the duo followed her for some distance and finally gave her the paper in which the jewellery was wrapped. Later, the jewellery were found to be fake.

The officer and her husband approached Tilak Nagar police station and lodged a complaint. Later, a policeman accompanied them to the spot and told them that the area was covered by Nijamuddin police station and not Tilak Nagar.

Their complaint was registered at Nijamuddin police station. Also, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police has prepared a sketch of the duo on the basis on the descriptions of the officer.

Police are investigating the case and following the leads given by the officer.
