A social welfare department official has been booked today for allegedly molesting a female subordinate in Chhattisgarh's Raigarh district, police said.

A case has been registered against Deputy Director, Social Welfare Department N P Patel under section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of IPC, based on the complaint of the victim and a report of Vishakha panel at Chakradharnagar police station, Raigarh Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Shukla said.

The officer is yet to be arrested, he said.

On September 26, the woman employee had complained to Raigarh collector Alarmelmangai D that Patel had allegedly made obscene gestures and inappropriate comments at her on September 24 in the office premises, the SP said.

The collector had directed Vishakha committee to probe the incident.

After inspection, the panel had found the levelled allegations to be true and recommended Raigarh SP to take appropriate action against the officer.

Police said investigations are underway in this connection.
