Govt official held for accepting bribe in Maharashtra

A health assistant attached to the Yavatmal District Health Officer was today arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 by sleuths of the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) here, police said.

57-year-old Eknath Tijare had demanded a bribe of Rs 4,000 from the complainant for sanctioning the medical reimbursement bill of his wife, Deputy Superintendent of Police, ACB, Yavatmal Division Satish Deshmukh said.

Following a complaint, a trap was laid near the DHO office and Tijare was apprehended while taking the bribe, the DSP said.

A case under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered and investigations are underway, police said.
