An assistant project officer in the tribal welfare department of the Maharashtra government was today arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000, Anti-Corruption Bureau officials said.

"One Bhila Devre initially demanded a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh from the complainant to sanction his bill of Rs 30.59 lakh," an ACB release said.

"However, Devre letter settled for Rs 50,000. Following a complaint, a trap was laid and the officer was caught while accepting the bribe," it said.

Officials said a probe was on.
