The government has ordered an enquiry by Lower Assam Division Commissioner into the alleged delay in releasing cheques of MLA area development fund by Barpeta district Deputy Commissioner.

Replying to a query by All India United Democratic Front MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed during the Question Hour, Planning and Development Minister Ajanta Neog said the government has ordered an enquiry by the Lower Assam Division Commissioner.

The probe has been ordered on the basis of the complaint received from Ahmed regarding delay in according approval and issuing of cheques of MLAAD schemes of his constituency Baghbar by the Barpeta DC, she added.

"Appropriate action will be taken on the findings of the enquiry report," Neog said.

Under the Kalpataru scheme for component I and II, the state government has selected a total of 351 beneficiaries in Baghbar constituency, the Minister said.

However, the government has disbursed funds for only 118 proposals, which is just 62 per cent of the total selection, she added.
