Govt owned bus attached for failing to pay accident claim

A state-owned transport corporation bus was today attached for failure to pay compensation awarded to a road accident victim.

The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal here, which had awarded the compensation of Rs 8.80 lakh three years ago, ordered the attachment of the bus as the amount had not been paid so far.

Rahul, hailing from Perumbavur in Ernakulam, suffered serious head injuries was travelling by a car when a state-owned transport corporation bus hit his vehicle near Periyanaickenpalayam on the city ourskirts, on June 26, 2012.

On a petition by him, the tribunal awarded Rs 8.80 compensation.

Since the transport corporation failed to pay the amount, Rahul again approached the tribunal, which ordered the Corporation to pay Rs.11.92 lakh including interest.
 

As officials did not comply with the order, the tribunal directed the officials to seize a bus of the corporation.
