Govt promises financial aid to hailstorm-hit farmers in C'garh

The Chhattisgarh government today assured the Legislative Assembly here that economic assistance will be provided to farmers affected from recent hailstorms in many parts of the state.

Giving a statement in this regard in the House, Revenue, Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Minister Prem Prakash Pandey said that in the past one week there are reports of light rainfall coupled with hailstorms in various parts of the state.

As per preliminary reports,mild rain coupled with hailstorms have occurred in Raipur, Rajnandgaon, Kawardha, Kondagaon, Narayanpur, Korba, Surguja, Koriya and Jashpur districts which have possibly damaged standing Rabi crops, he said.

Keeping in view the possible crop damages, all Divisional Commissioners and District Collectors have been directed to conduct detailed survey of crop damages from hailstorms in their respective area, he said.
 

They have also been asked to provide compensation to farmers if the crop damages amounts to 33 per cent or more under Rule 6-4 of Revenue Book Circular, he said.

The minister further added that hailstorms may also cause partial damages to houses as well, hence district Collectors have been directed to conduct survey of houses also and provide necessary financial assistance as per the norms.
