The district administration has refused permission to Majlis-e-Ulama-e-Hind for holding its religious rally here against terrorism on September 6.

Additional District Magistrate A P Shahi told PTI that it has been decided not to give permission for the proposed rally as the model code of conduct is in effect due to the bye-election for Lucknow east assembly seat.

Earlier, talking to the reporters, General Secretary of the Majlis and organiser of the rally Maulana Jawwad said that he had given an application seeking permission from the administration.

The cleric said that he had met SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav in connection with the rally.

Mulayam then had said that a peace loving person cannot oppose the rally, but it would be better if extra crowd was not called in the wake of a bye-election, he said.

He said that the rally was not being organised against any religion, person or party, but was being held against terrorism taking place internationally.
