The government has removed restrictions on import of fresh ginger from Nepal.
"Import of fresh ginger wholly produced in Nepal...is free," Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has said in a notification.
It said that the import of ginger from Nepal is free subject to a clause of Indo-Nepal Treaty of Trade.
However, import of the commodity is restricted for all other countries.
India imported fresh ginger worth USD 6.11 million in 2017-18.
At global level, India and Jamaica are main producers of the commodity. In the country, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh are among the key ginger growing states.
