Accusing Union Home Minister Amit Shah of lying about the detention of National Conference (NC) chief Farooq Abdullah, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Tuesday said it was "shameful" that the government had resorted to such "farcical lies".
The Left leader's remarks came shortly after Abdullah, while speaking to TV channels at his residence in Srinagar, contested Shah's assertion in Parliament that he was neither under detention nor arrest and was at his home out of his own will.
The NC leader said Shah was "lying" as there was a big padlock on the door of his house and a DSP had been placed outside his residence.
"The Home Minister is lying about a sitting MP and a three-time former CM. It is shameful that this govt has to resort to farcical lies which are immediately exposed. We have still not heard from our cadre in the state, including MLA Comrade Yusuf Tarigami," Yechury said in a tweet.
In another tweet, expressing solidarity with Abdullah, he said, "We stand by you as Indians committed to secularism and democracy.
