Govt sanctions Rs 15 lakh to conserve rare plants in Sahyadris

The Maharashtra government has sanctioned Rs 15 lakh for conservation of rare, endangered and threatened species in the Sahyadri mountain sub-cluster of the Western Ghats.

The government resolution (GR) issued today stated that the funds will be given to Shivaji University, Kolhapur for utilisation towards the purpose.

The sanctioned amount is a part of Rs 30 lakh project of which half of the amount was already released and utilised by the university. The amount sanctioned today is the last installment under the scheme approved on October 30, 2012.

The proposal named as 'conservation of rare, endangered and threatened plant species', was approved by the state government and funds were released in installments, the GR stated.
 

The first installment of Rs 10 lakh was released on March 19, 2013 followed by second installment of Rs five lakh on March 15, 2016, the GR stated.
