Govt school, 7 shops gutted in fire in J&K

A government high school and seven shops were gutted in separate fire incidents in the valley.

Fire broke out in a government high school at Gooripora on the outskirts of Srinagar last night, causing damage to the building, a police spokesman said.

The cause of the fire is being investigated, he said.

In a separate incident, five shops were gutted in fire at Tikipora village of Lolab area in Kupwara district of north Kashmir.

The fire broke out due to a short circuit inside a shop and within no time engulfed four other shops in a single story building belonging to one, Mohammad Maqbool Sheikh, the spokesman said.
 

Two more shops were damaged due to fire at Ponchalpora in Ashmuqam area of Anantnag district and Qamerwari in Srinagar, he said.

No casualties have been reported, he added.
