A superintendent of an Ashram residential school located at Khobramendha in the district has been arrested for allegedly raping a Class VIII girl student, police said today.

The accused, identified as Bhaurao Rushi Naktode, superintendent of Dhananjay Nakade Ashram School in Kurkheda taluka, was arrested yesterday for the incident that took place on February 16.

Ashram schools are residential schools, meant for tribal students.

"He was produced before a special court today, which remanded him in police custody till February 24," Sub Divisional Police officer Abhijit Phaske said.

According to the officer, the accused stopped the victim, who was returning from a grocery shop on Tuesday night, and forcibly took her to a nearby Zilla Parishad school where he sexually assaulted her. He also threatened to kill her, if she disclosed the matter to anybody.

Next day the girl lodged a complaint with Malewada Police Station. However, police registered a case against Naktode only yesterday.

The victims' relatives claimed the police were not ready to register a case and took two days to do so.

The accused has been booked under IPC section 376 (rape) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
