A Delhi government school teacher has accused the principal of harassing and insulting her by using inappropriate language, following which an FIR has been registered.

The complainant, a drawing and painting teacher at Co-education Senior Secondary School in Chilla Village, Mayur Vihar, has alleged that the principal had been mentally harassing her for over two years.

The principal has, however, denied the allegations as "baseless".

"The principal has been targeting me professionally for over two years. On Saturday, he entered my class and started yelling at me using inappropriate language. When I objected, he raised his hand to hit me following which I approached police," the teacher said.

According to senior police officials, an FIR has been registered in this connection under IPC sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman).

When contacted, the principal said, "I had only objected to lapses in her work which were found during an inspection. The allegations that I was targeting her or tried to hit her are baseless".

The Directorate of Education (DoE), which is responsible for the administration of government-run schools, said the matter is being looked into.

"We have not received any formal complaint from the teacher. But we are getting the FIR examined and seeking explanation from officials about the issue. The matter is being looked into," DoE Director Padmini Singhla said.
