Government needs to shed "ego" and change "attitude" towards Opposition parties to ensure smooth functioning of Parliament, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said here today.

Amid continued disruptions in both Houses, the Kerala MP said that Congress cannot be blamed for the logjam in Parliament insisting that the onus of ensuring its smooth functioning was "as much" on the government.

"In our country, we have a Parliamentary system and it is also the government's responsibility to ensure that it functions. You can't move forward by blaming opposition for everything," Tharoor told reporters on sidelines of a conference on 'Preserving and Protecting Freedom, Truth and Equal Access in Higher Education'.

"If we have to work in favour of the nation, government should not show ego, talk to people and take them together. If the attitude of the government improves, I have no doubt that things will move forward. I think the government needs to make more efforts to take everyone along," he added.

Tharoor had yesterday said that the government needs to take the concerns of Opposition "very seriously" noting that there will be constructive response from them only if the government reached out to them in a "constructive way".
