Maharashtra government was striving to improve the quality of education in the rural areas, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said here today.
Speaking at an event organised by daily 'The Hindu', Chavan said government was ensuring that there be a primary school within one km periphery of every village, a secondary school in periphery of two kilometres, and higher secondary one in the periphery of three kilometres.
"(Improving) The quality of education is a big challenge that our country, and Maharashtra are facing. Natural resources of our country will not last enough to keep us running as a major economy. The only way is to develop a knowledge economy, and for which quality of education is very important," said Chavan.
