Govt to award 10,000 km of NH this year

The government today said it has set a target of awarding 10,000 km of highways in 2015-16.

"A target of award of 10,000 kms and completion of 10,950 kms of national highways has been fixed by Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for the year 2015-16," Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Pon Radhakrishnan told Lok Sabha in a written reply.

The source of funds for construction of national highways include budgetary support from the government, part proceeds of central road fund, plough back of toll revenue, market borrowings and equity from the developers.

He also added that 100 per cent foreign direct investment is permitted in highways sector.
 

Apart from ongoing national highways projects in various states, NHAI has been executing 185 projects while border road organisation is working on 60 projects.

Besides, 47 projects are being implemented under Special Accelerated Road Development Programme- North East (SARDP-NE) in addition to 85 projects under Left Wing Extremism Areas and 55 projects under National Highways Development Project.
