Minister of State for Home Jitendra Singh told Lok Sabha today that the central Government was closely monitoring the situation and coordinates and supplements the state governments' efforts to deal with the Naxal menace.
In 2012 till April, the Maoist have abducted 101 people and 14 of them were killed by the extremists under captivity while in 2011 out of the 329 kidnapped persons, the Naxals killed 64 people.
In 2010, the Maoists had abducted 490 persons of whom 113 were killed during captivity and in 2009 out of the 380 abducted persons, the Naxals killed 93 people.
The Minister said so far there is no evidence to suggest that Naxalites were directly getting financial assistance from foreign countries but the possibility of some front organisations of CPI(Maoists) clandestinely getting foreign funds cannot be ruled out.
"Government of India is closely monitoring the situation," he said. (More)
