Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today said the Centre was working towards making the country's coastal security system foolproof.

"We want to ensure a foolproof coastal security system for the country. To strengthen the coastal security, one must first assume that the country's coastline is vulnerable and then work towards plugging the gaps," Singh said here.

"We should consider that our coastline is vulnerable. Although it is not, we should consider it that way," he added.

Singh was talking to reporters after chairing a meeting of Parliamentary Consultative Committee, which discussed the issue of coastal security.

"We have ensured coastal security to a large extent, but we want to ensure that there are no loopholes left anywhere. If there are any, we will decide on overcoming them," the minister added.

He said senior parliamentarians have given suggestions over coastal security. "The Home Ministry will give a serious thought to these suggestions and then take a call," Singh said.

Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju and Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar were also present for the meeting.
