The Congress-led MUA government today decided to introduce Prevention of Disqualification (Members of the Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya) Amendment Bill, 2015, which will prevent MLAs from holding dual posts.

"The Bill will be tabled for the consideration of the House during the current session of the Assembly," Chief Minister Mukul Sangma told reporters after a cabinet meeting held here.

"We have decided to approve the amendment bill to ensure that members of the Assembly will not be allowed to any dual elected post," he said

A petition has been filed by a prominent NGO seeking disqualification of as many as eight MLAs who are alleged "dual post holders".
