Welcoming the Budget, Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan today assured the people that the prices of essential commodities will not be allowed to increase in any condition.

The subsidy rate of Rs 1-3/kg at which foodgrains are supplied via ration shops has not been changed in the Budget, he said in a statement.

Transparency has been brought in the the Public Distribution System (PDS) by using IT. Seeding of ration cards with Aadhaar has been done to ensure that the foodgrains reach the right beneficiaries, he said.

The food law, under which highly subsidised foodgrains are provided to 84 crore people, has been implemented successfully throughout the country, he added.

"Overall, this budget is beneficial for farmers, women and poor, especially for persons belonging to Scheduled Tribe," Paswan said.
