Govt to open women's colleges in dists not having one: Das

To promote women's education in the state, Jharkhand government will open colleges for them in districts deprived of women's colleges.

"The government has decided to open women's colleges in those districts not having them," Chief Minister Raghubar Das said at a school function here today.

Out of 28 districts in the state, there are no colleges for women in 11 districts - Simdega, Gumla, Lohardaga, Khunti, Koderma, Chatra, Ramgarh, Pakur, Sahibganj, Sareikela- Kharsawan and Latehar, officials said.

According to the Economic Survey - 2015/16, overall literacy rate in Jharkhand was around 70.3 per cent as compared to 75.4 at the national level.
 

Female literacy in the urban areas of the state was 77.5 per cent in comparison to about 55.2 per cent in the rural areas.
