Speaking to reporters, after holding a review meeting on the issue, Gowda said Rs two crore would be released for coastal areas and Shimoga to resolve rain-related damages.

Gowda said directions were issued to district in-charge ministers and secretaries to visit drought-affected areas and chair task force committee meetings.

Criticising the Centre, Gowda said though the state had asked Rs 6,215 crore, only Rs 282.35 crore was sanctioned.

Gowda also said sowing should have been done in 74.7 lakh hectares of land, which has taken place in 10.88 lakh hectares only.

Also there is a severe shortage of drinking water, he said.

"In May-June, there was a shortage of 65 per cent rainfall," he added.
