In reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare S Gandhiselvan said the Department of AYUSH under the Health Ministry has approved nine AYUSH clusters in states of Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan and two in Maharashtra.

He said the scheme for development of AYUSH industry cluster is based on Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode whereby willing industries desirous of framing cluster can apply and obtain matching grant under the scheme.

Since the project entails availability of infrastructure and willingness on the part of Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) members, it is for the SPV to decide the location for setting up the AYUSH industry cluster, he said.

While the government has earmarked Rs 10 crore each for such clusters to be set up in Anantpur in Andhra Pradesh, Bangalore in Karnataka, Thrissur in Kerala and Amritsar in Punjab, a sum of Rs 9.49 crore and Rs 8.87 crore have been allocated for two such clusters in Pune and Ratnagiri in Maharashtra.

Another Rs 5.99 crore has been allocated for one to be set up in Berhampur in Ganjam, Orissa, while Rs 9.77 crore has been allocated for one in Jaipur in Rajasthan and Rs 9.65 crore for one in Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu, the Minister stated in his written reply. PTI SKC
