The West Bengal government has decided to set up a mortuary in Howrah town, Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim said here today.

The Howrah Municipal Corporation would provide land for the mortuary in which 12 bodies could be preserved at a time, Hakim said.

The minister was here in connection with a programme in which keys of residences were provided to people who were displaced from land at Salkia where a flyover would be set up.

The Rs 68 crore flyover, to be built by the Howrah Improvement Trust, would ease traffic problems in north Howrah, Hakim said.

A project on providing compensation to people whose shops were there on the flyover site was also inaugurated.
