Delhi government has asked transport, environment departments and traffic police to launch a campaign to make people aware about its decision on mandatory PUC certificate for all vehicles for getting fuel.
Taking stock of the preparedness, chief secretary D M Spolia today issued instructions to departments of transport, environment and food & supply and traffic police to work in tandem to bring awareness in this regard.
Spolia underlined the need of launching an awareness campaign without any delay as only 17-18 days are left in implementation of the decision.
"The departments have also been asked to go ahead in launching a forceful campaign on print and electronic media apart from putting notices at filling stations and other permissible places like zonal transport offices and other area where footfalls remain substantial," said a senior government official.
The official said that the filling stations will be communicated in plain words that fuel must be denied to vehicles which were not in possession of valid PUC certificates.
In the meeting with top officials of different departments, the issue of infrastructural upgrading and expansion was also discussed.
"The large number of people is likely to pour in at PUC centres on December 1 and thereafter. There are over 60 lakh vehicles in Delhi and their number is fast increasing day by day. It was decided to increase the number of PUC issue centres and make them functional for longer hours.
"Most of the filling stations are housing the PUC centres in their complexes. The government will also call applications for sanction of the new PUC centres at filling stations where presently this facility is not available," he added.
