A 27-year old bill to provide for participation of workers in the management of companies was today withdrawn from the Rajya Sabha.

The bill had been pending in the Upper House since May 1990 when the then Labour Minister Ram Vilas Paswan had introduced it.

The present government withdrew the bill with Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya moving a motion for withdrawal of the Participation of Workers in Management Bill, 1990.

The motion was adopted by the House through a voice vote.

The bill sought to make provisions for the participation of workers in the management of undertakings, establishments or other organisations engaged in any industry.

Later, a labour ministry official said that the bill will be introduced again with changes as per today's corporate governance requirements and other modalities.

A consultation will be held with all the stakeholders before reintroducing the bill, the official said.
