A bill on allocation of coal mines, which became infructuous after the passage of a similar bill in Parliament this year, was withdrawn from Rajya Sabha today.
The Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Bill 2014, which was already passed in the Lok Sabha in December 2014 and later laid on the table of the Rajya Sabha on December 15 last year, was withdrawn from the Upper House by Coal Minister Piyush Goyal.
The bill was withdrawn as it became infructuous with Parliament passing a similar bill earlier this year.
The objective of Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Bill 2014 was to provide for allocation of coal mines and vesting of the right, title and interest in and over the land and mine infrastructure together with mining leases to successful bidders and allottees with a view to ensure continuity of coal mining operations and production of coal.
