Indians started their campaign in the 2015 Commonwealth Youth, Junior & Senior Weightlifting Championships with a bang, winning more than two dozen gold medals on the first day of the competition here today.
The likes of Sukhen Dey, Sanjita Chanu and S Mirabai Chanu enabled the home team to clinch maximum gold medals in the men and women's categories respectively.
In 56kg men's division, Sukhen Dey lifted 108kg in snatch (silver) and 136kg in clean & jerk (gold) for a total effort of 244kg to bag the yellow metal. Jamjang Deru lifted 242kg (107+135) for a silver medal finish.

Jamjang also bagged gold in all three categories -- snatch, clean & jerk and overall -- in both 56kg junior men's and 56kg youth boys' sections.
Jamjang, in the process, created a national youth record in snatch event with a lift of 107kg, bettering his own record of 103kg set during the Yamuna Nagar Youth National Weightlifting Championships on January 18 this year.
In 48kg senior women's category, Sanjita Chanu lifted 81kg in snatch (silver) and 101kg in clean & jerk (gold) for a total of 182kg to clinch the gold medal, while S Mirabai Chanu picked up 81kg in snatch (gold) and 100kg in clean and jerk (silver) for an overall 181kg to settle for silver.
In 53kg senior women, Matsa Santoshi (190kg-82+108) and Pramila Krisani (189kg-80+109) bagged the top honours.
In 48kg Youth Girls division, Mohini Chavan won the gold with a total lift of 146kg (61+85), thus bagging yellow metal in all three categories. Pooja Gupta claimed the silver medal after lifting 141kg (60+81), winning the second position each in snatch, clean & jerk and overall.
Pooja also finished second in each of the three categories in the 48kg junior women.
In 44kg youth girls section, T Priyadarshini clinched the gold with a lift of 128kg (53+75) to claim the top position in all three categories.
