Green Festival to be held in Matheran

Noted artists, innovators and environmentalists from seven countries and 16 states would be participating at a Green Festival to be held at Matheran hill station in Maharashtra's Raighad district from May 21 to 25.

"Matheran Green Festival 2015" is India's first Forest Festival to be held in a reserved forest and is organized by Matheran Pratishthan and the New Bombay Design. It is hosted by Matheran Municipal Council, Ministry of Environment and Forests of the Union government.

'Matheran' is a 100 per cent pollution-free hill station and also an only vehicle-free hill station in Asia.

This is the first step towards transforming Matheran as a model town and destination, which will speak about Eco-sensibility, responsibility of each individual to conserve and understand nature, a release from the organisers said.
 

The event attracts artists, musicians, film-makers, environmentalists and speakers from all over the world to come together in a forest and share their thoughts about nature.

Bollywood's celebrated Art Director Sukant Panigrahy and Bhubaneshwar's Kalanirvana International Art Centre's Ashis Pahi would be among the prominent participants.

The Festival is a conscious effort to bring about an astute awareness about nature and it's creative expressions, which attracts 50,000 visitors, including art enthusiasts and nature lovers across the country,especially from Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata, Odhisa, Pondicherry and nearby cities by involving the community and creating a model that can be replicated to other natural resources as well, the release said.
