A grenade was recovered in the vicinity of Thathari police station in Doda district, a senior police official said today.

The bomb was placed in two parts on a link road adjoining the police station. However, it was neutralised in time, Doda SSP Arif Rishu told PTI today.

It was recovered yesterday with the lever at one spot and the body at another, he said.

Rishu denied that it was an attempt to target Chief Secretary Mohammad Iqbal Khandey, who was on visit to Doda.

The incident had nothing to do with the Chief Secretary's visit. It was found from a completely different location and Khandey was not supposed to travel to the area, he said.

He added that if there was any intention of creating an explosion, the grenade would have been hurled and not placed on the road.

However, he said investigation was on to establish the details.
