Charging the Head of the Forensic Department at Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) here with "harassing" them, eight doctors of the department have threatened not to perform post-mortems from September 14 if action is not taken against him.

The doctors alleged that Head of the Forensic Department G Natarajan had been continuously harassing them, threatening to withhold their allowances and burn their reports.

In a statement, president of the Tamil Nadu Government Doctors' Association K Senthil said that forensic doctors would abstain from work from September 14 if appropriate action was not taken against Natarajan.

Twelve to 15 post-mortems are conducted at GRH mortuary daily. A doctor, who did not wish to be named, said there had been several charges, including bribery, against the HoD.

After a new dean took over, Dr Natarajan was relieved from duty of assigning doctors for post-mortem to reduce tensions between them, the doctor said and alleged that the HoD had then put equipment under lock and key, affecting work.

Natarajan on his part said the doctors were turning against him as he was "strict" towards them.
