Group clash in old city areas; rioting case against 140

A case of rioting has been registered against 140 persons belonging to two groups of different communities who allegedly clashed at Raikhad area of the city over a trivial issue and burnt down a few vehicles, police said today.

"We have today registered a case of rioting against 140 people of two different religious communities, who indulged in stone-pelting and burning two vehicles late last night in front of Jayshankar Sundari Hall in Raikhad area of the city," Police Station officer of Gaikwad Haveli, Manubhai K said.

The incident occurred after two motorcyclists- both of them belonging to different communities, collided with each other at Raikhad area of the city and picked up a quarrel, he said.
 

Later on, both of them called up their respective community members, who started pelting stones on each other, he said.

The mob also burnt two cars and damaged several other vehicles, he said.

Police personnel including officials of the city crime branch rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, he said.

V M Selar of Gaikwad police station is investigating the case but no arrests has been made so far.
