The general secretary of the students union of Sabong Sajanikanta College in West Midnapore district, where a third year student was beaten to death early this month, was arrested today in connection with the incident.
Police said Soumen Ganguly, who belongs to Chhatra Parishad, the students wing of Congress had been absconding for the past few days and was arrested this morning from Paniparul in East Midnapore district.
Ganguly had lodged the FIR after Krishna Prasad Jana, a third year BA student was allegedly beaten to death in the college on August 7 during a clash between Chhatra Parishad and Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) over felicitation to West Bengal minister Soumen Kumar Mahapatra at the college.
But he went absconding after police arrested several Chhatra Parishad leaders in connection with the incident.
After his arrest, Ganguly was produced at the CJM court here which remanded him to police custody for three days.
