Gujarat State Petroleum Corp (GSPC) and Adani Gas Ltd today reduced prices of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) by more than Rs 11 per kg and Piped Natural Gas (PNG) by over Rs 6 per standard cubic meter (SCM) in a major relief to the people of the state.

The price revision has been made by the two firms in the wake of allocation of additional quantity of cheaper gas under revised guidelines issued by the Central Government.

State-run GSPC and Adani Gas, a private firm, are city gas distribution (CGD) entities supplying CNG (transport) and PNG (domestic) to consumers in Gujarat.

While Adani Gas caters to consumers in Ahmedabad and Vadodara, GSPC and its units provide CNG and PNG to other Gujarat cities. Lakhs of consumers will benefit from the cut.

"In view of the additional allocation of gas, price of CNG is being revised downwards from Rs 56.20 per kg to Rs 44.90 per kg," an official release quoted Energy Minister Saurabh Patel as saying this evening.

"Price of PNG (domestic) is being revised downwards from Rs 30.55 per SCM to Rs. 23.50 SCM with effect from February 20," he said.

Besides providing relief to domestic users of PNG, the government has done away with the slab-based billing process.

"From February 20, the slab-based billing system will be abolished," he added.

This is the second round of reduction in CNG prices in the last two months by the government.

Adani Gas reduced prices of CNG by Rs 12 per kg and PNG by Rs 5 per SCM for its consumers in Ahmedabad and Vadodara with effect from midnight tonight.

"In view of the additional allocation of gas, price of CNG in Ahmedabad and Vadodara is being revised downward from Rs 58.75 per kg to Rs 46.75 per Kg," an Adani Gas release said here.

"Price of PNG (domestic) is being revised downwards from Rs 28.80 per SCM Rs 23.80 SCM (excluding VAT) with effect from February 19," it said.
