Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil
Kumar Modi on Tuesday asked people to guard against Covid-19- related fake news on social media and asserted that those found spreading misinformation would be taken to task.
Modi, who also holds the finance portfolio, said several online posts have made "absurd" suggestions to ward off coronavirus infection, which people should resist paying attention to.
"Misinformation and hoaxes on Covid-19 are being circulated on social media... Some have even suggested treatment, medicines to tackle the menace. Don't trust everything you read or see on social media, as many of these posts are fake," he said.
People should listen to health experts and doctors and follow their advices instead of relying on random social media posts, he said.
"Have faith in newspapers as they are more authentic and credible," he said, adding that spreading misinformation will attract penalty.
