Guargum prices shot up by Rs 174 to Rs 8,345 per quintal in futures trading today after traders enlarged their bets on the back of robust export demand.
At the National Commodity and Derivative Exchange, guargum for delivery in May climbed by Rs 174, or 2.13 per cent, to Rs 8,345 per quintal, with an open interest of 39,455 lots.
Guargum for delivery in April was trading higher by Rs 163, or 2.03 per cent, to Rs 8,180 per quintal, an open interest of 25,015 lots.
Marketmen attributed the rise to widening of positions driven by strong export demand amid restricted arrivals of guarseed from producing regions in spot markets.
