Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad today arrested a man in Jaipur in Rajasthan for allegedly helping the suspected terrorist Samir Khan Pathan get a fake passport for travelling to Pakistan.

Govindbhai Rajawat allegedly arranged a fake passport for Pathan, which the latter used to escape to Pakistan. After reaching Pakistan, Pathan allegedly underwent training in terrorist camps for three years.

Pathan then returned to Gujarat with the intention of killing the then Chief Minister Narendra Modi and other BJP leaders, before being killed in an encounter in 2002.

Earlier, Pathan and his accomplice Sarista Khan had allegedly killed the police constable Vishnubhai Jivabhai in 1996 when he tried to stop the duo when they were running after snatching a woman's gold chain. Pathan then escaped to Rajasthan.

"When Pathan was living in Tonk in Rajasthan, Rajawat helped him get a bogus passport after obtaining a bogus driving licence from Jaipur RTO," police said in a press release.

Rajawat had been handed over to the crime branch here for further investigation, the release added.
