Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Tuesday reviewed the progress of some big ticket railway projects in the state and insisted for their timely completion.

In a review meeting held in Gandhinagar, Rupani was apprised by officials that all the pending work of Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) passing from Gujarat will be completed by December 2021, an official release said.

The meeting was attended by senior officials of the state government, the Centre and Railways.

While reviewing the progress of land acquisition for laying tracks to connect Kevadiya with Vadodara, Rupani directed Railway officials to complete the project at the earliest.

Kevadiya in Narmada district is located around five kms away from the Statue of Unity.

The CM said railway connectivity would further boost tourism activity at the 182-meter tall structure dedicated to 'Sardar' Vallabhbhai Patel.

The chief minister announced providing land at 50 per cent concession rate for the upcoming Railway University in Vadodara.

He also asked the officials concerned to expedite the ongoing work at Gandhinagar railway station, which is under redevelopment after Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the ground breaking ceremony in January 2017.

Construction of a five-star hotel atop the railway station is underway as part of the redevelopment.

The CM directed officials to complete the entire redevelopment project by mid 2020, the release stated.

He also discussed various aspects related to the proposed redevelopment of Surat railway station.
