Congress workers allegedly attacked a Election Commission team videographing a function of their party leader Kirit Patel, who is contesting against BJP patriarch L K Advani, here today.

Patel is contesting from Gandhinagar seat.

"The EC flying squad was attacked by some Congress workers at the party office at S G Highway area of Ahmedabad," said Police Inspector M K Rana.

He said the incident occurred when some Congress workers took objection to the flying squad of EC videographing the party function.

"After heated arguments, the Congress workers scuffled with the squad members, broke their video camera and attacked them," the police officer said, adding one of the squad members Dashrath Parghi was injured in the incident.

A complaint was lodged against Congress workers on the charge of preventing a government employee from performing his duty and breach of the Election Commission's notification.

"Congress candidate Kirit Patel was present when the incident happened," police said.

Meanwhile, Congress workers alleged the camera of the flying squad members was broken because they were recording visuals of women party workers.

"Their camera was broken because they were taking video of lady workers," a party worker said.

When contacted, Patel termed as rubbish the police' claim Congress workers were involved in the attack.

"This is rubbish that Congress men attacked the EC team. I am not contesting the election for the first time. This is my fourth election and not a single complaint has been filed against me," Patel said.
