Gujarat Congress today termed Chief Minister Anandiben Patel's two-year tenure as a 'total failure', claiming that not a single promise made by the BJP government has been fulfilled.
According to Gujarat Congress president Bharatsinh Solanki, Patel has failed to execute any major project during the period.
"People gave mandate to BJP in 2012 Assembly polls because the party leaders have made numerous promises. However, looking at the performance of Anandiben Patel's two years in power, it is now clear that this government has failed to keep any of their promises," Solanki said here.
"All the major projects, such as dams and education institutes, were set up during Congress rule (between 1960 to 1995). It was Congress which built the Narmada dam. On the other side, Patel-led government focused on only those projects where there was huge scope of corruption and kick-backs," he alleged.
Patel completed two years in the office as the Gujarat CM yesterday. She was sworn in as the first ever women CM of Gujarat on May 22, 2014, after Narendra Modi vacated the post of Gujarat CM to assume the charge of Prime Minister.
The Congress leader also took a dig at 'model state' tag of Gujarat, claiming that people are "misguided" by BJP government's publicity.
"Massive publicity campaigns were carried out to establish that Gujarat is number one in India and it is a model state. However, reality is different. The truth is, Gujarat ranks 6th in child mortality rate. 45 per cent children and 55 per cent women here are malnourished," he claimed.
"Patel and her government spent only Rs 6,000 crore in last two years in building Narmada canal network. As a result, 8,000 villages in the state are suffering from water scarcity. People are dependent on water tankers. This situation arisen due to mismanagement of Patel government," alleged Solanki.
The Gujarat Congress chief also criticised BJP government on the issue of law and order situation, health-care services, rising cost of education, lack of teaching staff, corruption, inflation and problems faced by farmers.
He also admitted that Congress in Gujarat has failed to understand the mood of middle class voters, especially in urban areas.
In Solanki's views, middle class voters, who are
considered as loyal voters of BJP, are now swaying towards Congress after BJP has failed to keep their promises of 'acche din' (good days).
"It is true that Congress could not understand the mentality of middle class voters in Gujarat. But, we are working on it. We will increase our connection with them. We will gain their trust and field candidates who are having direct connection with them," he said.
