Gujarat government has disbursed Rs 1.11 crore as compensation to rape victims during 2013-14, Minister for Women and Child Development Vasu Trivedi informed the Legislative Assembly today.
Trivedi was responding to a query raised by BJP MLA from Bhavnagar, Vibhavari Dave during the Question Hour, seeking detailed information on the compensations.
In her written reply to Dave, Trivedi said that the rape victims have been paid Rs 110.80 lakh in three phases. Rs one lakh was paid to each.

"While Rs 20,000 was given immediately as interim relief to (each) woman (victim), in the second phase, up to Rs 50,000 was given for related expenses incurred by the rape victim, such as hospital treatment, legal fees, counselling fees, allowance for her pregnancy period due to rape, abortion charges, if any, etc.
"This relief also covers expenses made on child or mentally challenged rape victims, who needs extra medical care," Trivedi said.
The minister said that this relief of Rs 50,000 also includes expenses made on the rehabilitation of rape victims, such as towards her education, professional training, training to set up business.
"In the third phase, Rs 30,000 is paid (to each victim) as and when needed. Thus, a total of Rs 1 lakh is given as compensation to each rape victim in the state," Trivedi added.
