Gujarat government will start 'Deendayal generic medicine stores' to sell generic medicines to the poor patients at 40 to 80 per cent lower rates, minister of state for health, Shankar Chaudhary said today.
In the first phase, 52 stores will be opened in cities and towns, an official statement said quoting him.
Trained staff will operate these computerised stores which will remain open 24 hours and sell around 1,000 generic drugs for now. Number of drugs would be increased to 2,000 in the second phase.
"The number of stores will be increased to 500-1,000 in near future and they will be opened at tehsil level, apart from multiple stores in one city," the release said, adding that the stores will also operate on franchise model.
Generic, branded generic, over-the-counter medicines and surgical implants will be available at stores.
Mobile application 'G-Dava' was also launched today by the minister. It will act as a search engine for information on branded and generic medicines, price difference, chemical composition, availability, etc.
