Guj: IPS officer Rahul Sharma's wife dies of dengue infection

Sumita Sharma, wife of Gujarat IPS officer Rahul Sharma who was facing departmental action for not sharing call record data related to 2002 post-Godhra riots with his superiors, passed away today following a dengue infection here today.

Sumita (44) was being treated at a private hospital. She died due to multi-organ failure, family sources said.

Rahul Sharma, a DIG-rank officer, was chargesheeted by the Gujarat home department last year for allegedly giving CDs containing 2002 riots-related phone call records to various agencies including the Nanavati Commission and the Supreme Court appointed Special Investigation Team without authorisation, and not providing it to his superiors. He has challenged it before the Cantral Administrative Tribunal.
 

Health department has sought a report from the hospital on Sumita's death. Steps are being taken in the area to check the spread of mosquito-borne virus.
