A day after 11 undertrials escaped from a sub-jail in Zalod town in Dahod district of Gujarat, an FIR was today lodged against four policemen for dereliction of duty.

The FIR has been filed at Zalod police station upon the orders of Dahod SP, Mayanksinh Chavda.

"Due to the negligent approach of these four policemen -- one head constable and three constables -- who were given guard duty at the jail, 11 undertrial prisoners managed to escape yesterday. We have lodged an FIR against the four personnel," Chavda said.

The 11 undertrials escaped from Zalod sub-jail, controlled by local magistrate, after attacking the guards.

However, two of the undertrials have been caught. While one of the prisoners was caught yesterday itself by jail authorities as he had sustained injuries while escaping, the second one was nabbed today.

"Yesterday evening, one of the prisoners asked the guard to open the barracks, claiming that he was suffering from chest pain. As soon as the guard opened the door, these 11 prisoners attacked the guards and escaped through the main door.

"We have nabbed two of them so far, while nine others are yet to be caught," he added.

Considering the seriousness of the incident, Gujarat Director General of Police (DGP) PC Thakur visited the jail and instructed local police to beef up security there and take steps to nab the remaining prisoners, Chavda said.
