The first 'Vibrant Gujarat' roadshow in West Bengal by Gujarat government has references of law and order and the Nano project of Tata Motors.
A Gujarat minister Nitin Patel today emphasised that his state offered quality infrastructure and well-maintained law and order situation.
Patel was addressing about 250-odd city enterprenuers and company officials in the roadshow for its forthcoming destination state event, Vibrant Gujarat 2015, to be held between January 11-13,
He, however, did not raise any recent local law and order problems in West Bengal during his speech.
The minister, who had his first visit to city, did not miss the opportunity to cite that Nano has come to Gujarat and now other auto majors like Maruti were following suit.
West Bengal had just concluded its own four-city roadshow, for investment event 'Bengal Leads' in January 2015 that did not cover Gujarat.
Replying to questions about land, the minister and other officials said Gujarat in general has come out of direct acquisition of land for industry.
However, a Gujarat government official said the state government had not halted completely but going slow in direct acquisition after the issue became sensitive following the agitation by Mamata Banerjee (then opposition leader) a few years back.
Asked if land policy of both the states is similar what Bengal lacked with regard to investment, Patel said, "infrastructure development and other allied services like support to farmers is important and should run parallel."
Patel did not wish to make any further comment on Bengal and said all states will try to attract investment for growth and job creation.
West Bengal had carried out four roadshows in Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai ending in November 10 for its annual investment summit 'Bengal Leads' between January 7-8, 2015.
Interestingly, CII was partner to both West Bengal and Gujarat investment roadshows.
Meanwhile, sources said minimum 4-5 officials of city-based industrial houses held closed door meeting with Patel.
